Fallout New Vegas Big Red Exclamation Point

I've found that to cure the red exclamation mark in this game, you have to load up a save in the game as a new account. If you load up a save as a new account and then go back into the game as your original account, the red exclamation mark will appear.
There's a red exclamation point that won't go away after each save. I have tried both the fusei and hard mode. My characters name is also saved with the red exclamation point. i don't know how to get rid of it and i need to save before i can play!
Loading a save as a new user removes the exclamation point. This does work with the Steam version of the game too, but the save files are stored on the Steam Cloud, so the saving does not get as far as it does with a fresh install.
My character keeps making an exclamation mark after every save! Every time I return to the game my character's name is now marked with an exclamation point. I think the exclamation point is a message from something in the game telling me what is happening. I need to find out what is causing this, but until I do I need to stop it from appearing!
